Article: New Poll Finds Overwhelming Majority of Georgians Support Federal Minimum Wage for State’s Working Poor

This article, about a poll conducted by the Atlanta Women’s Foundation between January 31 and February 8, 2008, states the desire of the majority of Georgians to raise the state’s minimum wage to the federal level.

Report: Strengthening The Foundation

The Georgia Budget and Policy Institute released this report in August 2008, stating that a “Georgia minimum wage increase would benefit hundreds of thousands of workers and children.”

Women in the Halls

This Atlanta-based organization seeks to involve more women in the legislative process by organizing groups to lobby at the state Capitol.  They lobby weekly during the legislative session; 2009’s begins on January 12th. 

States with Minimum Wages above the Federal level have had Faster Small Business and Retail Job Growth (PDF). This updated report from the Fiscal Policy Institute shows that the diverse set of states with minimum wages above the federal $5.15 level have had faster job growth among small businesses and in the retail trade sector than states where the lower federal minimum prevailed.
