Take Action to Raise the Georgia Minimum Wage!
Your calls, letters, emails, and support are needed today! Please check our Coalition Calendar to attend an upcoming meeting or event. |

Concerned Supporters: It’s important to talk to your local Representatives and Senators. Ask them where they stand on this issue and encourage them to support legislation to cover ALL Georgia workers under the increased minimum wage!
Contact your elected state House and Senate members, and members of the House Industrial Relations Committee, reminding them of the necessity to raise Georgia’s minimum wage. Find your legislator here. Not sure what to say? Use these talking points to help!
“Working fulltime should lift workers out of poverty, not keep them in it. As the Book of Deuteronomy proclaims, ‘You shall not withhold the wages of poor and needy laborers.’(24:14 NRSV) We maintain that to underpay workers is to withhold a portion of their wages.” Faith-Based Supporters can write a letter of support. We welcome members of ALL faith traditions to join our coalition. Ask members of your congregation and your religious leaders to sign the letter, then send it to our Faith-Based Organizer, Reverend Kate Mosley. Use this template for your Letter of Support.
Supporting Organizations can join the coalition, attending coalition meetings and events, and pledging a donor fee.
Businesses can sign this letter to show their public support and join many other business across the state and nation who support a minimum wage increase equal to or higher than the federal minimum wage. |

The 2009 House Industrial Relations Committee Let’s get a hearing for HB290 this year! During the 2008 legislative session, Committee Chair Rep Mike Coan refused repeated requests from coalition members and legislators to schedule a hearing on, the Georgia Minimum Wage bill. His explanation? “We’re very busy. ” Rep. Coan is apparently too busy to consider the plight of working people who still earn less than poverty wages for full-time, year-round work. Georgians working at minimum wages are busy also – trying to support their families. Please write to Rep. Coan and other members of the House Industrial Relations Committee (listed below). Let them know we expect elected officials to find time to consider legislation that is supported by more than 9 out of 10 Georgia voters, and more than 130 religious leaders across the state. |
